link for the music player that you are most comfortable with. Your choices are: WinAmp, Windows Media Player, iTunes, and Real Player.
We recommend iTunes, but the other players should work as well.
[Some players may download a simple playlist file (.pls) to your Desktop. Double clicking on the file should kickstart the radio]
What happens when I get an error message when trying to listen?
Make sure you have the latest version of the audio player you are using. Try using a different external audio player. If this doesn't work, please email us so we can help solve the issue.
What does it mean when the computer begins to re-buffer and the music stops for a second, and why does it do this?
Sometimes this could just be a bad connection between your computer and our server, which could go away with time. Also, it could be that our main computer used to run the radio has melted into oblivion. We'll have to perform alchemic ceremonies to revive the database. In that case, just wait a few minutes and we'll be back up and running ASAP. While were at it: If you hear a long delay of silence, or notice that we're playing all the songs that start with "J" for 12 hours straight, or think you hear multiple cat meows instad of a dj please CONTACT us so we can get the radio back on track.
Where are you broadcasting from?
We are broadcasting literally out of a basement of a private home in Seattle. Our goal is to find a public venue to operate our station in the future.
Are you broadcasting live?
We organize our playlists and content before the actual date that it plays. As of July 2007, we have 15 available DJ's who are able to spin music live and handle your requests. In the near future, we will be able to broadcast live Seattle House Shows, performances, and interviews.
How many people are involved in running Hollow Earth Radio?
Amber Morgan and Garrett Kelly are the founders and main organizers of this radio station. Various people volunteer in a number of ways. See our LINKS page to see our contributors and supporters. If you are interested in volunteering, please see CONTRIBUTE for more information. Also check out our DJs page for more info about our lovely assortment of amateur broadcasters.
Do you post playlists anywhere?
Currently, we do not upload archived playlists. However, song titles/artist names stream on the musicplayer as each song is aired, and our homepage shows the last ten songs played.
Do you have a mailing list?
Hell yeah. Get on it? Are you not on it yet? Go HERE.
Can I be a DJ?
YES! We are now actively accepting Djs at this time - just email us for a simple application HERE.
If you are outside of the Seattle area, please see our CONTRIBUTE page to find out how you can be a part of the station from afar.
Why no podcasts?
We like the old-fashioned way of listening to the radio; if it is on when you turn it on, you can listen! And, we would like for listeners to support these musicians who we are playing on our radio, so if you hear a band you like, go see their shows, buy their cds, and tell your friends about them. In the future we may decide to have selected podcasts available for downloading. Note: We broadcast daily from noon to midnight (Pacific Standard Time). During weekends, we are on air until 4 or 5 in the AM.
I have recorded House Shows in Seattle or the Northwest or somewhere else in the world. Can I contribute my own recordings for airplay?
YES! We'd love to have your live house show recordings. Please make sure the artists are okay with their shows being on our radio before you contribute.
How do you pay for Hollow Earth Radio? Can I make a donation?
We pay out of our own pockets to run the station. We would also love to receive donations to help this station keep running. If you like what we are doing and support our mission, you can donate HERE. Our monthly bill is $250, aside from the hours spent working on the station. This bill includes hosting costs, royalties, advertising, and ongoing maintenance for the radio. Any donation helps. If you would like to help create fundraisers or benefit shows, please contact us.
I am in a band. Can I send you our music? How?
If you are in a band, send us music. YES! We'd love to have it. Go to our BANDS page to find out how. We try to play as much local, Northwest, and smaller indie bands as possible. We are unable to tell you when your songs will be airing on our radio. Here's a tip though: If you are a Seattle or Northwest band, your best chances for hearing your band would be to listen to the Seattle and Northwest mix shows. Check our SCHEDULE to find out when these shows air.
